What is an audio cutter?
An audio cutter keeps one continuous section of an audio file and discards the rest, producing a shorter new file. It touches only the start and end points: volume, pitch, speed and everything inside the kept section stay exactly as they were. People reach for one to lift a chorus for a ringtone, drop the silence at the head of a recording, or shorten a long podcast to the part worth hearing. On this page the cut happens through the Web Audio API inside your browser, so there is nothing to install and the source file never goes anywhere.
Does cutting audio reduce file quality?
It can, depending on the export format. If the source is MP3 and you export back to MP3, the file has to be re-encoded, and every lossy re-encode loses a bit more quality, even if it is barely audible the first time. To trim without losing anything further, export to uncompressed WAV instead, at the cost of a much larger file.
Why does the cut point sometimes produce a clicking sound?
Because the cut lands mid-waveform instead of at a zero-crossing point, so the wave is cut off abruptly and the ear hears it as a pop. Cutting on a silent gap, or nudging the marker by a few hundredths of a second, is the simplest way to avoid it.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The browser reads, decodes and rebuilds the trimmed section itself using the Web Audio API, so the audio never leaves your machine. Speed depends on your device. A file longer than 15 minutes or larger than 100MB still previews, but export is disabled. That is an in-browser encode safety ceiling, not an account tier.
When will merging several clips into one file be available?
Merging is planned and does not work in the current version. What ships today trims a single section from a single file. The planned version will let you add several clips to one timeline, reorder them, and smooth each join with a short crossfade so the seams are inaudible. There is no set ship date yet.
How does this compare to desktop software?
Installed audio editors do far more: joining clips, EQ, noise removal, batch processing, and no size ceiling beyond your own disk. The price is downloading, installing and learning an interface full of buttons. Online cutters are usually the opposite: open the page and start, but most of them upload your file to their server first. The cutter on this page sits between the two, because it loads like a web page but processes locally like an application: no install, no upload, at the cost of a size and length ceiling per cut, since browser memory is finite.
